The time saved by forging with a power hammer vs. forging by hand, will justify the cost of owning a power hammer. However, the hammer will not produce excellent results without a trained operator. One could spend years 'playing around' with a power hammer and still not reap the full benefits offered by these tireless tools. While the techniques used in <A HREF="http://www.anvilfire.com/bookrev/hofi/power_hammer_dvd.htm">free-form power hammer forging</A> are not rocket science, instruction, practice and critique are required to become proficient  with the power hammer.
